And amazingly, he put up with it pretty well. I think once it gets a little colder, and the connection between "there is something ON ME" and "I am WARM" is made, he may be sporting it a bit more.
Since he mostly gets around by pushing himself across the floor on his sides, he has rubbed all his fur down to velvet nubbins. Soft and silky, but not warm for him, poor smunch.
