Google Wave looks freaking awesome. I have been dying for some more robust collaboration programs, and this makes me squee like a tiny child.

The Color Red. [livejournal.com profile] laughingrat posted this a few days ago, and I just had time to read it today. It talks about how overcoming poverty must include overcoming mental poverty as well, and the work of Heifer International in a village in Nepal. I was really struck by how much of a difference HI was able to make for the women mentioned in the article, not just in the way they were able to start providing for themselves, but in the way they treated each other, in the community they built in spite of the social stigmas pressing on the different members of the group.

I've made a firm deal with myself- I am going to put aside $5 a week for HI, and donate it at the end of the year. What they do creates such a positive change, and I love that their push is for the people they help to turn around and help others in the same way.

The world (and possibly Lori), needed this t-shirt. This one is even better. And this one is nice and subtle.

I am on a bumper sticker buying spree, mainly because I know Stanley will die a little inside when he sees them on my new car. Heheheheh.
I think what I like best about this is the word "feticide".

House Panel Okays Bill Making Feticide a Felony

I don't really think of abortion as a viable form of birth control. ETA: I should have said "I don't believe that for me, abortion would be a form of birth control I would choose as anything but a last option." because that's what I meant. But you know what? A woman is more than a fucking walking gestational facility. It would sure be nice if there was some acknowledgment of that, in the form of leaving her fucking rights intact, vs. those of a fetus that is in no way viable outside of her body.

I could really grow to hate this fucking state.
How could anyone possibly take this broadcast seriously?

In the past 15 minutes, I've seen stories on the following:

(Possibly) Poisoned Terrorist Gumball Machines in New Jersey
How Your iPod Makes You More Likely to Die (Or At Least Be Struck By Lightning)
Majouring in Video Games
Pets For The Cure

I am not watching The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Weekend Update, or some new televised version of The Onion. Nope, I'm watching Fox News.

I know it only gets turned on because it's the only local news playing at 10, but DAMN. You'd be better off just buying a copy of the Enquirer and turning it into a flip book.

As a special bonus, I've also seen the "Tell Your Kids to Wait For Sex Until They're Married" commercial twice now. Gag me.
Anyone who has been around me at Halloween probably knows that I am vastly amused and always on the look out for the "Ooooooo, witches are REAL!" reports that show up on tv and in print.

This one is better than that. Very respectful, and a nice article about [livejournal.com profile] irenejericho.

On the other hand, I'm still looking forward to seeing at least one local news anchor make a terrible joke about being hexed. Because I'm just that way.

Wow, this guy is just fucking insane, isn't he?

That's right, the Geneva Conventions are more a set of guidelines, really. (It's wrong to paraphrase PotC in a post about Bush.) Torture. Yeah, that's totally cool with us.
I know some of you are dog owners, so I thought I'd pass this info along.
