So, My Chemical Romance quietly announced they were breaking up last night. As bands do, y'know? As a fan, you always hope that the next thing is coming, but if they think they've reached the end of the line, that's their choice.

I didn't realize how much this band had taught me- what they created, HOW they created, how they almost always portrayed the kind of huge emotion I was afraid to admit feeling, and made it understandable and okay to explore. This band gave me a world I'll be proud of creating until the day I die, even if I'm the only one who ever sees it. And their music, their genuine enthusiasm, gave me the permission I needed to find beauty and hope in the world I live my life in. To not be ashamed of WANTING to find something better, and to never give up until I used my energy to make it happen.

What more can you ask of a band, really?

WOW. I can honestly say I did not see that coming. I can only hope that, like Fall Out Boy's hiatus, it brings many other new and wonderful things. And that maybe, someday, they'll come back.

I'd been expecting a new album announcement soon. This hit me out of nowhere. Like you said, I expect great things from them, and hope they come back together later.

But damn, I will miss them as a band.

Having been into punk music in the 70s/80s, I've been trained to not expect even a second album from a group I like. Still, like you with MCR, I'll drop my guard now and again, only to be disappointed. I can still remember when Guadalcanal Diary returned my fan club monies because they were breaking up.

I can understand how you feel. Chin up!

There's always the chance they'll get back together, I suppose.

It's hard to describe- I really love what they did, and I'm happy to have been exposed to it, but I'm going to be a little sad that they won't be doing anything new.

Aww... sorry hon. I was never one for MCR (tbh, I never gave them a chance. They were supposed to support Greenday when I went to see them and then dropped out because they were suddenly big and thought they were too good for it. It set me against them), but it does suck when your favourite bands stop making music. At least you can still enjoy what you have and it's great they were so good for you. :)

The American Idiot tour? They had to drop a couple dates because they all got a raunchy case of food poisoning, from what I understand. But they opened the rest of the tour. I wish I'd caught one of those shows!

Ah well. I love what they did- just sorry there won't be more.
